Last day of freedom…

Afternoon peeps…

Today is the last day of freedom until The Sparks’ Family goes back to work and school. :( We’re all a little bummed, but vacations (sadly) can’t last forever.

We started this day by hopping out of bed, throwing on some clothes and heading out to find food. Since we made sure our fridge was empty when we left for Chicago that meant there was nothing to eat for breakfast this morning and a commercial on television made Jason was really want IHOP. I started the breakfast off with a cup of much needed coffee.

I had another cup after this one, but couldn’t finish the entire thing. I forgot to ask for skim milk and ended up using half n half instead (which I don’t like to do) so that might explain why I only managed to finish 1.5 cups.

IHOP isn’t one of those places that I frequent for obvious reasons, but Jason loves it and we hadn’t been in forever so that’s where we went. I made good choices though…they have a new menu section called IHOP For Me. The item choices are quite a bit healthier than the regular menu and portions are MUCH smaller; which I happen to like. I don’t mind paying $6.00 for a breakfast that is an appropriate size for consumption. When I get food at restaurants and the portions are so giant I almost feel obligated to eat the whole thing because I feel like I’m waisting food otherwise. Review alert…

This morning I went with the Blueberry Harvest Grain n Nut Combo For Me.

IHOP For Me Menu

Blueberry Harvest Grain & Nut Combo For Me – the pancakes were very fluffy and nutty and had a good amount of blueberries in them. They weren’t too sweet or too big. Actually they were the perfect size for me. I left a few bites remaining on the plate, but nothing like other menu items I have had in the past. They were also topped with sliced banana and I got away with using very little syrup once it was all said and done.

Scrambled Egg Substitute – was a little odd tasting, but I have had egg substitutes at home before and knew what was coming. I added a little bit of salt and some hot sauce and was good to go.

All in all the For Me menu seems to be fairly healthy (as far as eating out goes) and it wasn’t any more expensive than regular menu items. I left feeling satisfied and full, but not grossly stuffed. As a once in awhile breakfast out I would say this is not a bad choice.

Now I need to vaccum before putting Regan down for a nap. Once she’s down I have a fun filled afternoon of haouse cleaning and putting away laundry, but first – Jillian Michae’ls 30 day shred!! OH IT HURTS SO GOOD!!!

  1. Awesome job on food choices at IHOP. I don’t know if I could have controlled myself there. Not my favorite place to go but their pancakes are pretty darn good! :)
