We went and we left…

Hey Guys! I’m home and it’s only 1:00.  I tried taking Regan back to school today and had an inkling that it wasn’t the best idea, but what’s a working mom to do?? I dropped her off with her teachers (whom I adore!!) and felt horrible leaving her sad little face.

I worked hard and quiet today because my mind is racing with book thoughts and Regan is sick thoughts and she should really be at home in her bed thoughts and am I going to get fired if I leave early to take my sick baby girl home thoughts… finally I couldn’t take it anymore when I saw her at lunch and her teachers told me that she is “hanging on” but mostly laying on the pillow and then is happy to be there for a little while and then is laying on the pillow again all the while her poor nose is just pouring and red and raw!!

I left work at 12:30 and took my girl home. Now that’s where we are and she is napping some what peacefully in her own bed.

This morning I managed to get up at 6:05 and began my shred workout at about 6:15. I made it until the last 5 minutes or so when I heard Regan crying from her room and that meant work out was over. :( I umped in the shower and by the time I was out she was crying and coughing and that should have been my first sign of the way the day would go down. Oh well…

I got Linsey moving and we all sat at the table together to have breakfast. The girls wanted cinnamon toast and bananas and I wanted oatmeal. Rarely do we ever eat the same breakfast during the week. Is that weird??

This morning’s baked goodness was:

  • a Quaker banana bread instant oatmeal packet
  • 4 tbsp canned pumpkin
  • 1 tbsp organic ground flax seed meal
  • 1 tbsp dried cranberries
  • 1/4 c liquid egg whites
  • 2 tsp organic blue agave syrup

Topping this lovely and filling concoction was:

  • 1 banana sliced
  • 1 big scoop of 365 organic almond butter

Of course I had my ChiTown mug full of hazelnut coffee because apparently that is one of my favorite flavors. :)

I managed to sneak in a snack this afternoon before bringing Regan home. It was not that great, but it did the trick as far as holding my hunger over till I got home and ate lunch (which I will do in a few minutes).

I’m going to clean the kitchen completely and then heat up some of my veggie pizza from dinner last night in the oven. Thin crust pizza is ALWAYS best reheated in the oven!!

Don’t forget that there is still the opportunity to Ask Me Anything!! Here are a few more of the questions I’ve answered so far…

You seem too young to have kids? How old are you?

THANKS!! I’m 30 years old and will be 31 on May 10th.

What do you believe is the hardest part about being married. Also, the hardest aspect of your life at this moment?

The hardest part about being married is having two very different personalities both wanting to run the show. It takes effort on both sides to keep things running smooth.
The hardest aspect of my life right now is figuring out how to “make it” doing what I love to do so I can make that my full time job.

If you had to give up one favorite food, what would the most difficult?

Bread – no question! I am kind of addicted to sandwiches!!!

Hi! I read your blog allll the time and lovee it. I am trying to become a vegetarian, but it is hard sometimes! I find myself eating a lot of dairy and am not sure if I am getting enough of certain necessary nutrients. Do you have any tips to make the transition easier and not eating too much of one thing (like dairy)? Thanks!!

@Jamie: First of all – THANK YOU FOR READING!!! I love writing my blog and LOVE that other people love it too!! That makes my day to hear things like that. On to your question – I found when I first made the switch it was difficult because I was used to the “regular” meal of meat, veggie, and starch (rice, bread, potatoes, etc) I have found over the years that by changing my view of what a “meal” looks like I can make easier and healthier choices. Sure, I still have the occasional “regular” meal, but of course my ‘meat’ is of the vegetarian version. I do try to watch my soy intake to some extent, but there are TONS of veggie options out there that are soy free such as Quorn, Tempeh, and so forth. Depending on where you live you may or may not have easy access to these products. My favorite stores are Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s but WF can get pricey so I am picky about what I will buy there.
Good luck with the transition and don’t be too hard on yourself. Our world isn’t geared towards our kind (YET!!) but is definitely miles from where it was when I became a vegetarian and can only continue to move forward. Eat what you like, like what you eat and seek out healthy options that you love…you will do just fine!!
