WOW! I know it’s late for a race recap, but today has been pretty hectic sine 6:00 this morning. We got up at 6:00, put on our No Meat Athlete shirts and were on the road by 6:35! We got out the map and a little something to munch on in the car on the way to the race.

I’m not fond of working out on an empty stomach and this nutrition facts panel looks pretty good to me.

Once we got to the race sight Linsey and I headed in to get our packets. Linsey got nervous because the line for the 10k said “No Walkers” and she started to panic. We decided at the last minute to do the 5k instead which made her feel much more comfortable. Since we switched race lengths at the last minute we decided that our goal would be to finish in under 45 minutes. Then we had to hustle to make it to the starting line, but we did pose for our “photographer” first.

Then our photographer/cheering section took some more pictures of us waiting for the horn to blow!!

Once the horn sounded Linsey and I took off keeping our pace slow and steady. I was nervous that she would jet out at first and tire quickly so I kept telling her to set the pace and I would follow. This seemed to be a good strategy and worked well throughout the race.

Amazingly enough we held a good spot towards the front of the pack because most people were signed up for the 10k, but that made Linsey feel even better! Jason and Regan hung around to take pictures of us while we were running and at one point Regan jetted out into the race to “say hello”!!

Then they were there as we headed towards the finish line too!

Regan was very proud of her Mommy & Sissy and quickly stole our ribbons too! I guess her being the little sister entitles her to the ribbon… Linsey was so excited because we finished under our goal time!! We agreed that under 45 minutes was our goal and we finished in 41:31!!!

As a plus to the amazing time for her first 5k she also raised $575.00 for the ASPCA!! I can’t tell you how proud I am of her…she really is an amazing little girl!
