HI! As you know I had some bad luck with overnight oats yesterday, but determined to make it right I tried again. Ya know – if at first you don’t succeed…
Here’s what I did:
In a small bowl I mixed 1/2 c old fashioned oats, 1/2 c vanilla almond milk and 5 frozen cherries sliced in half. Then I covered it with saran wrap and popped in the fridge before going to bed. This morning I got it out, unwrapped it, topped with 1 tbsp of chocolate cherry peanut butter and heated in the microwave for about 45 seconds just to take the chill off and make the peanut butter easier to stir in. It was divine!
Along came the beverages to wash down all these yummy oats…
Drop off with Regan was quite an event this morning. As I may have mentioned last week we have a college bound girl keeping Linsey and Tuesday’s and Thursday’s so she can go swimming and the park and the Magic House and the movies and all kinds of super fun things! Well – that is great for Linsey, but Regan feels awfully left out and sad that she doesn’t get to do it as well.
This morning she let me (and her teachers all day apparently) know that she thinks this is unfair BULLSHIT and she’s not happy with the arrangement in the least. She was crying and screaming when I handed her off to her teacher’s and there is NOTHING more heartbreaking than hearing your baby (even though she can be a devil in a super cute toddler body) screaming her lungs out and crying for you as you walk out of her classroom and down the hall (where I could STILL hear her screaming.) According to her teachers she was very defiant, angry, kicking and screaming most of the day today.
Being a parent is hard.
The deli was steadily busy and we passed our first health inspection!!!
To celebrate I enjoyed a snack of chobani and granola.
Then for lunch I enjoyed the same thing as yesterday. I wasn’t feeling very adventurous or super hungry for that matter.
Now for some good news!
My little girl is a FABULOUS dancer!! Linsey was asked to be in her dance school’s dance company (she’ll be in extra performances and concerts throughout the year) and that is ALL she can think about. I’m so proud of her, but now she will be in 4 dance classes a week plus extra performance rehearsals throughout the year as well.
In the end she realized she was going to have to cut a few things out of her busy social calendar (
) and decided not to continue with girl scouts. It’s just too much of a commitment that she may not be able to follow through with during the year and dance is something that she is very passionate about. I think she thinks she’s going to be a famous dancer and singer one day. I say GO FOR IT! The girl has the moves and she DEFINITELY has the pipes.
Speaking of dance – I need to change into my running attire and drive her to her class in about 30 minutes. Which means I have about 25 minutes to map out a course to run near her dance school!
Catch ya on the flip side!
Do you think it’s possible for a 9 year old to already know what she “wants to be when she grows up”?? Is it good to let a 9 year old have such a busy schedule??

Hey there- I’m new to reading your blog – I’ve enjoyed it! I have an almost 8yr old who thinks this fall he should be playing tackle football, travel baseball, lacrosse….AND boy scouts….notice I didn’t mention school or church yet? I also have a toddler – she is demanding and showing us what fun age 2 is going to be!
To answer your question -I think as long as they are really enjoying their activities its okay to be busy…I know what they say about free time for play – but I also know what they say about idle minds!
(Sorry for the super long comment!)
@Shannon – I am right there with you!!! I want her to do all the things she loves and enjoy doing them, but I want to make sure her school work doesn’t fall out of line in importance. Linsey is so smart and I think that everything will fall into place – I just don’t want to be “that” mother who has to have her child in everything.
8 and 2? That’s about where we are…9 and 2! I’m feeling you all the way!
Don’t worry – I LOVE LONG COMMENTS!
