I’ve been contemplating my resolutions for a few weeks now. I wanted to make them do-able, but not too do-able. After reading this article from Matt (one of my favorite bloggers) a few weeks ago I really got to thinking about my resolutions.
Were they too easy?
Would they make me fitter?
Would they cause trouble with my family?
Am I setting myself up for failure?
Are they going to enhance my family?
Are they going to enhance my “true self”?
How are they going to impact my life?
How might they impact my family?
I decided to break my resolutions up into three categories. That way I could make resolutions strictly for my benefit, resolutions for my personal health and resolutions that would enhance my family.
So here are my resolutions for 2011…
PERSONAL:
- Read 11 books in 2011
- Journal at least three times a week.
HEALTH/FITNESS:
- Do Master the Met in 25 minutes or less.
- Be completely Gluten/Dairy Free by the end of the year.
FAMILY:
- Go gadget free one day a week (cellphones & laptops).
- Television free dinner Monday – Friday.
So there you have it. My 2011 resolutions aren’t all impossible, but some will require extra work. I’m looking forward to getting Linsey and Regan on board with some of these resolutions as well. Their going to seriously dislike the no television at dinner rule, but once it gets going they’ll come around. Table talk is one of my favorite activities with them. It always ends up being the best conversations!
The gadget free day is going to be the difficult one for me. I’m kind of addicted to my blackberry.
I’m going to see it through to the end though because I really believe that everyone needs a technological break now and then.
I hope that everyone had a happy and safe New Year’s Eve and enjoys spending the rest of the weekend resting up to go back to work on Monday. We spent our evening with a group of friends eating, laughing, playing games and watching the kids have a great time together. It was a great evening all around.
Now I’m going to enjoy this day in my pajamas, playing games with my girls, watching movies as a family and enjoying each others company. My house will still need to be cleaned tomorrow, the dishes will still be there and the laundry won’t have walked away. I think one more day of enjoyment is just what the New Year Gods ordered.
Do you make New Years resolutions?? What are yours for 2011??
HAPPY 2011!!
