I worry that this kind of weight management just leads to “white knuckle” weight control. Do you find this has led you to intuitive eating, that is, responding to your body’s internal hunger cues, or do you feel you can’t trust those and so must rely on measuring food, food labels and the bathroom scale? In any case, I wish you luck! I just hope that you aren’t teaching your daughters to diet, not trust their bodies, and judge themselves by the scale. Take care!!

    1. RealFitMama says:

@ Georgia – I eat my meals when I’m hungry for them and have 2 snacks a day if I want them. I have dessert on occasion and don’t measure anything I eat accept for oats because I need a certain oat to milk ratio to get the right consistency. I read food labels ALL THE TIME, but that is because I am a vegetarian. I do not want to ingest hidden meat and work very hard to avoid all the unnecessary processed items in many foods. If that is “white knuckle” then so be it. I care about what goes into my body and my daughter’s bodies. I rarely weigh myself and do not appreciate you accusing me of teaching my daughters to diet. I don’t judge myself by the bathroom scale so how could I possibly be teaching them that lesson. My daughter’s are taught to eat real, unproccesed and as close to nature foods as possible. They are taught the truth about the meat industry and they know why they are vegetarian.

      Peace and Love,
      Maria

Sounds like a smart mom trying to teach her family that with proper eating and exercise you can live to your optimum potential! Funny to me that people who choose to eat right and exercise are mocked and frowned upon but those who choose to eat themselves to an early grave are looked past and never mentioned. I am a health fanatic and love exercise and raising your children to be the same way shows someone who actually has concern and care for their family! Keep up the good work and continue to spread your knowledge to others! Knowledge is power!

So I just saw your picture on post moms on yahoo. You look anorexic. Great job being motivated and insipiring and having your own website. Your stomach DOES NOT have a pouch (or whatever you called it). You need to look at your picture and yahoo and realize that you have a problem. Sorry I am a hater but too much of a good thing is sometimes bad. I wish I had as much energy as you but at what price. Good luck and I hope you continue to accomplish your goals and inspire people in POSITIVE ways.

    1. RealFitMama says:

@ monarc_butterfly As a matter of fact my stomach DOES have a small pooch. It’s called loose skin from having a c-section, but I embrace it and love it and run in a sports bra anyway. As for the anorexic remark – I am 5 feet 5 inches tall and currently weigh 121lbs. That is in no way anorexic.

As for inspiring people in POSITIVE ways – you must not have read any of my posts. I talk all the time about loving myself – imperfections and all – I’m sorry you missed that point. If you don’t like what I have to say or how I look or what I eat or how much I do or don’t exercise you can feel free to not read my blog. That’s the beauty of the internet.

      Peace and Love,
      Maria

    Hi!

Ran across your site compliments of Yahoo!, and I’m so glad I did! I’ve never followed a blog before but find yours fascinating, so I’ve bookmarked it. It’s enjoyable and — comforting? — reading such honesty coupled with experiences and feelings to which I can relate.

Bonus for me: You’re a vegetarian! Bonus part II: It’s for ethical reasons! (I’ve been vegetarian for 11 years, two of which were vegan … I’d really like to get back to the vegan thing). I haven’t delved into your posts under The Passionate Vegetarian Movement yet, but look forward to it. Also loved your idea of conquering all the recipes in the veg cookbook — it has my wheels turning! :)

Thanks for the honesty, and congrats on the Yahoo! post!

    Addie

PS I love the ThinkThin bars … discovered them a couple months ago. :)

@ Addie – WELCOME!!! So glad you found me through the Woman’s Day article. To be honest my site has been blowing up the past few days and I’ve been trying very hard to keep up with emails, comments and what not. Hope you enjoy what you read here. I don’t sugar cote and NEVER lie. If I think it – I usually say it. My husband says that’s my one flaw. Oh well!

Congrats on 11 years!! I hit 8 this month and have been going back and forth on the vegan thing for quite sometime. I have all vegan days and then I have all vegan meals…maybe I’ll get there one day.

    Hi Maria,

I found your blog (somehow?!) and am so happy I did! Happen to come at a time in my life where I’m truly trying to live healthier. Not diet, but live healthier and not put processed crap in my body anymore! I’m 40 and only wish I would have gotten here sooner!

I love your blog, look forward to the updates everyday and have recommended it to some friends. Your healthy eating has inspired me! I am wondering where you get the chocolate peanut butter? I clicked on the Opensky link and I see “Nuttzo” but not the chocolate peanut butter. I have been reading labels more and noticed that sugar is the 2nd ingredient on most store bought peanut butter! I would love to put the chocolate p.b. in my oatmeal (Dr. McDougall’s organic, it’s instant and I can make it at work but it only has oats and salt in it, pretty darn good for instant!)

Good luck with your move to the new apartment!

So nice to “meet you” -

    Karen

    1. RealFitMama says:

@ Karen – Thank you so much for all the kind words!! It means much more than you know. The chocolate peanut butter I use is Peanut Butter & Co. Dark Chocolate Dreams and it is sooooooooooooo good. I buy it at most regular grocery stores.

Good luck with the life overhaul. :) I know how difficult it can be, but also how important it really is and how much better I feel having made so many changes in my life.

      Love “meeting” you too!!
